If you, like me, ever wondered what the differences in shape and size are between the standard Mini saloon and the Ogle SX1000: this is it. I took drawings from The Autocar of both cars, got rid of all the arrows and numbers and projected what was left on each other to see how they compare from the side and from the top. The (wheel)base hasn't changed a bit, but the rest of the car certainly has.
Longer and lower. Dashboard moved back considerably too, and note seating position

The differences in size are perhaps even more prominent from a top view

Also curious to see how the dimensions of both the Ogle and Mini compare with the MG ADO34 / ADO35.
ReplyDeleteThe ADO 35 does look similar in size to the Ogle but I have never seen it in the flesh. Been trying to persuade the owner for years now, but he is very secretive. ADO 34 would be easy to measure up though...
DeleteWith ADO 34 another comparison would be with the Elf/Hornet at both the length and wheelbase, since it would answer a question on if the visual cues of ADO 34 could have been successfully applied on a rebodied Elf/Hornet.
DeleteThe British Motor Museum has it that the both ADO34 and the Ogle feature the same wheelbase as the Mini, with ADO34's length being 320cm or 10'6" and the Ogle having a length of 320cm or 11'2".
DeleteNice work Jeroen.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what the different CD (Drag Co-efficient) would be?
It was generally thought that the more streamlined body added at least 10mph to the top speed but most of the detailed SX1000 reviews at the time were not of vehicles powered by standard 997 Cooper engines.
