Summer 2022 - the show is on
It's summer and it's showtime once again! I have been sent lots of pictures of cars making it to shows in the last month or so and share some of the best of these here, together with some more bits and pieces that may interest you folk. I hope you'll enjoy them - and keep those pictures coming.
Over in Australia this Jem was spotted last month by a friend of Ogle owner Neil Griffin. Neil wrote: "Jeroen, a friend who now lives in South Australia saw this at an impromptu car show over there."

Neil Kilbane of Ireland spotted this 1977 Jimini Mk1 "Came upon it at a car boot sale about 25km from me. The guy said he had it for 20 years but never had it on the road. He was looking for €3500 for it!"

Not one but two Mini Ice cream vans with 'Batman' bodies by Whitby Morrison. One of them is owned by Andy McPail, who took this picture on a show at the British Motor Heritage Centre in Gaydon

US reader Burton Reif attended the Mini Meet West in Kingston, Washington with his Ranger Cub, which he drove from Portland Oregon (previously seen here). He was surprised to see a Mini Marcos Mk4 driven all the way from Sacramento, California!

Mark Glasher's pretty Unipower GT made it to the prestigious concours d'elegance of the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June. It came out in a class for mid-engined 1960s cars

A well-used Birchall McCoy was seen at a show not far from my place in The Netherlands recently. It's the only McCoy that I have ever heard of in my country, and I really should have been there!

Season in swing

Mosquito found in a barn
Day 3 of Three-Wheeler Week at Maximum Mini and with another rare find. Once more it was found by Stewart Adeline O'Neil, who also came up with yesterday's mystery Mini based three-wheeler (here). This one is not quite so mysterious though - it's a Mosquito!
And it's a Mosquito known, too, as this particular car was featured in MiniWorld magazine in 1993 as well as in Chris Rees' three-wheeler book. Frenchman Damien Lescroart keeps the register for these vehicles and had 'Q228 FDD' as one of a few unknown cars in his list. See it here. I'm sure Damien will be pleased to see it's another survivor. Let's hope it will be saved soon.

Last of the Triads discovered... unbuilt
Damien Lescroart and Emilien Pillot, France based fans of anything Mini based, have a special place in their hearts for the three-wheeled Mosquito and Triad (excellent website about the subject can be found here). According to them a grand (?) total of 20 of these cars (11 Triads and 9 Mosquitos) were built from 1971-on. And with their continuous research to these quirky vehicles they managed to track most of these down. Most, that is, for as a matter of fact one of them remained shrouded in mystery. It was a Triad of which Damien and Emilien knew nothing more then its colour (green) from one hazy image. So when they were contacted earlier this week about this missing creature, I'm sure it made their day. It now appears the mystery Triad was never built and comes in the shape of an unfinished chassis and body kit to this very day. The current owner has in fact decided to sell the kit, so if you have always wanted to build yourself one very rare Mini based three-wheeler grab the opportunity here and pick it up in Evesham. Apart from an engine it is complete with all the bits and pieces you will need, even the carpets are there.
